The Development of Edo Cultural Heritage Centre in Toronto, Canada, Nov. 22, 2025

The Edo Cultural Heritage Commission in North America is an exemplary initiative dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Edo people. Our mission is to strengthen cultural connections within the Edo community, both in North America and Edo State. We are thrilled to announce our inaugural global event, scheduled to take place both online and in-person in Toronto on November 21-22, 2025. This event will unveil the proposal and plans for the Edo Cultural Heritage Centre in Toronto. The centre will feature an Edo-based art gallery (museum), offer workshops for Black youth and children in Canada, celebrate the annual Edo Language Day, facilitate exchange programs between Canada and Edo State, support Black artists and sculptors, and contribute to the art sector, among other activities. Establishing an Edo Cultural Heritage Centre in Toronto, Canada - Nov. 21 & 22, 2025

Our mission is to strengthen cultural connections within the Edo community in North America and Edo State.  We are thrilled to announce our inaugural global event, which will take place both online and in-person in Toronto on November 21, 2025. This event will introduce the proposal and mapping of the Edo Cultural Heritage Centre in Toronto. The centre will feature an Edo-based art gallery (museum), organize workshops for Black youth and children in North America, facilitate exchange programs between North America and Edo State, support Black artists, sculptors, the entertainment industry, and more.  Stay tuned for further updates!

Toronto's Chief Curator, Tara Chadwick, Visits Queen Idia Art Gallery

 The City of Toronto's Chief Curator, Tara Chadwick (Curator at the ROM Museum), visited Queen Idia House Art Gallery on Sept 8th, 2025.  It was a part of our efforts to expand and partner with various museums and art institutions in the City of Toronto!  Thanks to Councillor Holyday (Etobicoke Centre) for supporting our proposed expansion of the gallery! 

Nekpen Obasogie Received the CNP Award in Toronto, Canada - September 6th, 2025.

I was honored to receive an award from the Council of Nigerian Professionals (CNP) on September 6, 2025, in Toronto. The event was hosted by our esteemed sister, Lady Abha. I want to give a special shout-out to all the Edo women who accompanied me to the award ceremony. The organization of the event was impeccable, creating a vibrant atmosphere for everyone to celebrate. It highlighted the importance of community and the power of inclusion, leaving a lasting impression and enriching our shared experience.  ~~~Neken Obasogie

Stunning Edo Cultural Display: 2025 Edo Language Day, Benin City & Toronto, Canada

  We are thrilled to share some stunning pictures from the recent Edo Language Day celebration, which took place on August 9th and 13th, 2025. This year's event was held in five locations: Ososo, Okpella, Auchi, Benin City, and Toronto, Canada. It showcased the beauty of our culture through vibrant attire and inspiring cultural displays. Some of the dignitaries who attended the event in Toronto this year include the Hon. Jean Augustine, Former MPP Faisal Hassan (Toronto), Dr. Harris Enabulele from New Jersey, Edo's former First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, Prince Ephraim Odiakosa Nwabuokei from Washington, D.C.,  Ms. Vera Eniso Ogiorumua (Toronto), Itohan Evbagharu (Toronto) among others.It was a resounding success, filled with vibrant attire and captivating cultural displays that truly highlighted the richness of our heritage.
