We should be conscious of the fact that women's fashion is rooted in patriarchal structure of  society. According to Micheal H Hellet, "for the past 6,000-odd years what women could and could not wear was entirely-and often punitively-dictated by the patriarchal cultures they lived in".  As a result, women are subjected to confirm to this fashion expectation.
