2025 Edo Language Day in Toronto, August 8th-13th

The Organizing Committee of Edo Language Day Worldwide is thrilled to announce the schedule of 2025 Edo Language Day (third edition) Celebration with the theme: “Voices of Our Ancestors: Preserving the Edo Linguistic Heritage.” The program aims to revive Edo Indigenous languages and dialects worldwide, and the three senatorial districts of Edo State. This includes Esan, Afemai, Ora, Etsako, and other Indigenous dialects.

This year’s program will be hosted by the Nigerian Canadian Multicultural Centre in partnership with OISE/University of Toronto and the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies, University of Lagos. The main event is scheduled to be held in-person on August 9th in Toronto and Edo State and virtually on August 13th worldwide. The programs will take place in six locations: Toronto (Canada), Benin City, Auchi, Ekpoma, Okpella, and Ososo (Edo State, Nigeria).

Cultural Splendor: Lady Nekpen Obasogie's Colorful Birthday Party in Toronto, Canada

Lady Nekpen Obasogie's cultural birthday party in Toronto on August 9th & 10th, 2024. Her 50th birthday was celebrated simultaneously in Canada and Edo State on both days. The birthday showcases the colorful and cultural splendor of the Benin/Edo people. The elders in her group dedicated a special song of commendation (encomium) to her! Hon. Jean Augustine & MPP David Smith Graced Edo Language Day at University of Toronto, August 10th, 2024

The 2024 Edo Language Day Worldwide program was successfully celebrated on August 10th and 13th, 2024. The event was hosted simultaneously in six locations worldwide, including Toronto, Auchi, Ososo, Okpella, and Ekpoma. In Toronto, the event was hosted at the University of Toronto in Partnership with OISE/University of Toronto. Some prominent Edo citizens in the United States such as Pa Eghianruwa Ọmọruyi, Lady Aghabiomon Ogbeiwi, Dr. Harris Enabulele, Dr. Alphonsus Obayuwana, Mr. Aghahowa Tunde Obazee, Prince Ephraim Odiakaosa Nwabuokei, Osadebamwen Oviasogie, Mrs. Adesuwa Joyce Osunde, Dr. Itohan Idumwonyi, Mrs. Rita Oviasogie, and others came to Toronto to grace the event on August 10th at the University of Toronto.
