Young Mother of 3 Kids Died from a Stray Bullet, as She Voted in Edo State, 2023 Nigerian Election

Elizabeth Arigo Owie, a mother of 3 kids, was hit by a stray bullet and died during Saturday's election at her polling unit in Benin City, Edo State on Feb 25th, 2023. She voted in Unit 34, Ward 9, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area in Benin City (Ogheghe Market), one of the new Units introduced by INEC last year. During the early hours of the voting period, unknown gunmen opened fire on the crowd and Elizabeth was struck by a stray bullet and diedleaving three tender children to an average husband. Eseosa Ewere, who reported the news on Facebook, states that "I am deeply and personally touched by her unsolicited death, particularly for the role I played in getting her to that Unit last year. When she called during the Voters Registration Exercise that she wanted to register, I immediately linked her with the INEC Officials on the ground at her Ward, she was happy at the completion of the exercise. Today, however, that happiness is ruined and the family has been thrown into mourning. Elizabeth radiated light and beauty through and through." RIP!
