“Of all human phenomenal Death is the only one that is not mindful of status and class. It subject everyone to the same level and state of cessation and finality. I wish it is within the purview of humanity to wrestle death I would have enlist into the league of wrestlers to challenge death for it’s cruelty and merciless onslaught. Captain HOSA OKUNBO was a towering personality and conduit of honour to the Edo nation. May your soul enjoy God’s mercies and acceptance among the Saints in the Heavenly realm.”

Governor Godwin Obaseki wrote:

“We have lost a brother, Adieu Captain Hosa Okunbo
It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of a great son of Edo State, a brother, a distinguished Nigerian, an illustrious businessman and an accomplished philanthropist, Captain Hosa Okunbo.
A man of unparalleled energy and accomplishments, Captain Okunbo saw opportunities in adversity and from an early age in life, carved a niche for himself to become one of Nigeria’s most outstanding businessmen.
A trained pilot, he conquered the air at an early age and set for the waters and land, building enterprises that distinguished him in the business world and embodied the hard work, perseverance, dexterity and acumen that espoused his Edo heritage.
Okunbo was a philanthropist who gave lavishly of himself and his resources; thousands of Edo sons and daughters benefited from his charitable works and benevolence. As a mortal, Captain Okunbo was not a perfect person just as none of us can claim to be, but he will be remembered for his undying love for Edo people. His desire for the development and progress of our dear state, the Niger Delta region and Nigeria as well as his invaluable contributions to building bridges of peace across the country will never be forgotten.
I commiserate with the Okunbo family, friends and associates of our departed brother and pray that God will grant all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
Godwin Obaseki
Governor, Edo State.”

“DARK CLOUDS

Dark clouds drape the landscape; And the hurt in our hearts through tears escape Oh doctors of rave! Whither your Oath to save? Oh, lawyers of writ! Whither an Order to preserve our reet? These flowers in wreath, Only mask the tremors we writhe Oh death! The snatcher of breath: The fangs that yield your gains, Are the pangs that bleed our veins. The tangs that suit your reins Are the bangs that grid our pains, Though our jewel through you is gone, The echoes of his glow can never be bygone EPILOGUE: Some were born to yield breeds, Of sons and daughters; Others were born to groom seeds, Of icons and leaders With weighty wings, You feathered eagles from all angles; With hefty hinges, You anchored queens and kings. The captain of all terrains! Your final flight to extraterrestrial height, Comes with tempestuous rains, And floods of emptiness, of unbearable weight. Oh, Captain Hosa! Rest In Peace, Chairman. Immemorial: Captain Idahosa Wells Okunbo (January 7, 1958, to August 8, 2021) Kingsley Imuentinyan Jesuorobo”
